Welcome to the Music Ministry of Christ & Holy Trinity Church

We take great pleasure in our graded chorister program, consisting of five choirs, that offers music/vocal instruction, Christian education and spiritual expression to children and adults. All – parishioners and non-parishioners alike – are welcome to participate. Auditions are not required for membership; however, regular attendance at rehearsals and liturgies is expected. The musical and collegial growth of each ensemble depends on the commitment of its members and their families. The choirs regularly enhance our liturgies at 9:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and on special occasions.

Music & Arts at Christ & Holy Trinity is pleased to offer six concerts or liturgies this season. The choirs of Christ & Holy Trinity sing two Evensongs and Christmas Lessons and Carols. These offerings are augmented by ensembles of international renown, including the African Children's Choir, Cambridge's Choir of King's College and organ recitals by our own Sonia Kim and Claudia Dumschat from "The Little Church Around the Corner," a national landmark church in Manhattan.

What is...

 Evensong?

Evensong is one of the oldest and most magnificent services in the Anglican Church, dating back to Thomas Cranmer’s original Prayer Book of 1549. To create Evensong, Cranmer combined the monastic offices of Vespers (sung at sunset) and Compline (sung just before bedtime) into one evening rite.

The “Magnificat”?

It is the song of praise from the account in Luke 1:46-55 of Mary’s visit to her relative Elizabeth when Mary was pregnant with Jesus and Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist. The “Magnificat” is one of the traditional canticles of Evensong
