Why are we here at Christ & Holy Trinity?

To Carry Out God's Work in a Community of Faith.
We organize ourselves around certain ministries and responsibilities: they simply name our work for God on earth.  As you read through this section, realize that these areas of ministry have fluid boundaries. For example, when the Youth Group (listed under Education) serves a meal at the homeless shelter, they are in Outreach. Indeed, there are components of all the ministries, Stewardship, Worship, Education, Inreach, Outreach, and Parish Management in each ministry.

You are welcomed and encouraged to offer your time and talents to any of our ministries, at any time. All guilds and committees and all meetings are open. See the list of contacts or contact the Church Office at 227-0827 or info@chtwestport.org. We seek always to remain open to the wisdom and willingness of members to do this ministry to which we are called.  Download our 2006-2007 brochures below:

As our community grows in its understanding of the Christian faith in worship, we are also growing in our understanding of hospitality and the importance of community. The following is a brief highlight of the many wonderful programs Christ & Holy Trinity offers throughout the year. Mark your schedules early!

Sunday Morning Hospitality

Each week a team headed up by Dorothy McAteer, Tessa Bachmann and Bev Hennemuth graciously host our coffee hour following the 8:00 a.m and 9:15 a.m services. Individuals and families are asked to sign up and sponsor a week of hospitality which entails providing coffee cake and healthy snacks and assisting our team in their ministry of welcoming parishioners and visitors to Christ & Holy Trinity.

Newcomers

Our Newcomers program is one of the most vital ministries in our community. Throughout the year our team of volunteers work as Greeters on Sunday morning, connecting with new members in church and at coffee hour, and finding ways to connect people with seasonal gatherings, brunches and other festive events.  For more information, please contact Mary Holtze mholtze@optonline.net

Welcoming Ministry
The Welcoming Ministry Team is taking some time to examine and enhance the ways we welcome visitors and guests into our church community.  From our newsletter to our handicapped parking signs, all things are being considered!  If you have something to share about how you did or did not feel welcome when you first came to C&HT, or if you have anything to say about your experience of continuing/ongoing welcome, please let them know about it.  You can contact Katy Symobathy at 203-343-4643 or you can email her at katysymobathy@hotmail.com.  They also welcome those who feel called to be outstanding hosts to any guests who visit our church home to join them in their work.

Check your Blood Pressure!

Hypertenision (high blood pressure), if left untreated, can damage the body’s blood vessels. Organs that do not receive the correct amount of oxygenated blood can also be damaged. This can result in kidney disease, heart attack, stroke or loss of vision.
Unlike arthritis, hypertension does not always “show” itself. Occasionally people may complain of headaches and dizziness. The most effective way to detect hypertension is to have regular blood pressure checks.
With “primary” hypertension, there is no known contributing cause. It may be due to narrowing of arteries, a greater volume of blood being pumped through your arteries or your heart beating faster than normal.
“Secondary” hypertension is due to disease or illness, and can be treated. There are risk factors that predispose one to having hypertension, such as a family history, obesity, age, history of smoking, a high cholesterol level, a diet high in fat and salt, a high alcohol intake and little or no exercise. You can’t change your family history, but you do have control over the other “predispositions”.

The Heart Truth’s Ten Commandments for a Healthy Heart
1. Know your risk factors for heart disease.
2. Talk to your doctor about reducing your risk of heart disease.
3. Have your blood pressure checked regularly. Next screening at church: February 18.
4. Know your cholesterol numbers.
5. Have your blood sugar level checked for diabetes.
6. Do not smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco products.
7. Eat for your heart health.
8. Get regular physical activity (at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most or all days of the week).
9. Aim for a healthy weight.
10. Know the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and the importance of seeking medical help immediately.
