Spirituality of The Greats: Ancient and Modern Paths in Faith
What does the Christian life look and feel like when it is practiced well? Where can we find examples of Christian growth and excellence for our own lives today? This four-week adult course will offer an introductory sampling of major Christian spiritual writers from the great tradition--figures who have inspired generations of Christian believers in all walks of life. We will look at St. Augustine, the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the early monastic movement, St. Teresa of Avila, and C.S. Lewis. All are welcome at any and all sessions. For those interested in doing optional reading before each class, texts will be available for download on the church's website. Classes begin November 9 at 10:45 a.m. in Branson Hall.

Habitat for Humanity House Dedication!
On November 15th CHT parishioners Dawn Sullivan, Matt Stickley and Randy Abrams joined other members of churches in the Community Bridgebuilders Coalition to dedicate a new home at 710 Shelton Street, Bridgeport, built by Habitat for Humanity Coastal Fairfield County. Funds for the build were supplied in part by a $14,000 donation by the Faith in Action Committee from proceeds raised by the All-Parish Motown Dance Party last year. Thanks go out to all parishioners who helped in this effort.

Whenever a new Habitat home is dedicated it marks the end of significant hard work and the start of a bright future. The Batista and Caraballo family are not only new home owners but they also helped to build their home! They have put 500 hours of sweat equity into this home or other Habitat houses. They have also demonstrated the work history to purchase their home at cost and repay a 0% interest loan.

Like other Habitat homeowners they now pay taxes, in total Habitat owners pay more than $500,000 annually in local real estate taxes of formerly blighted, tax delinquent properties. Last, the outlook is promising as children of Habitat owners typically get better grades, are more likely to graduate from high school and college, and are less likely to become teen parents.

The members of CHT should be very proud of the work accomplished in Bridgeport and excited about the fantastic impact the Faith in Action Committee has made. Together we have made a tremendous difference in the life of this family and countless others.
